FAQ

Should our school implement the "Teach Me Writing" program in kindergarten and then add a grade level each year?
"Teach Me Writing" is a school wide sequential writing program that was designed to be implemented at all grade levels at the same time. As part of the program, Level C, Level D, Level E and Level F, include a nine-week tutorial that teaches the most basic principles of the process of writing. This is where each teacher establishes the consistent language, presentation and expectations that are essential to the program.
Can I use this program in my classroom even if no one else in my school is?
Yes, all levels can be implemented as a stand-alone program, providing a teacher with puposeful lessons each day. As part of the program, Level C, Level D, Level E and Level F, include a nine-week tutorial that teaches the most basic principles of the process of writing. This is where each teacher establishes the consistent language, presentation and expectations that are essential to the program.
How long are the daily lessons?
Daily lessons range between 20 and 40 minutes each, depending on the students' knowledge of the topic and the skill being taught.
Are private school teachers, principals, and other educational personnel eligible to participate in the Title II, Part A program?
Yes. Private school teachers, principals, and other educational personnel are eligible to participate in Title II, Part A, to the extent that the LEA uses funds to provide for professional development for teachers and others. Funds awarded to SEAs and LEAs under Title II, Part A are subject to the uniform provisions of Section 9501 of the ESEA (Participation by Private School Children and Teachers). The statute requires LEAs to provide private school children, their teachers, and other educational personnel with educational services on an equitable basis and in a timely manner. The requirement for the equitable participation of private school teachers and other educational personnel applies only to the LEA’s Title II, Part A funds to the extent that the LEA uses these funds for professional development of its teachers and other staff.
Can the "Teach Me Writing" program be used for middle school?
"Teach Me Writing" is a six level program that teaches the process of writing. If the middle school students are not proficient at writing paragraphs, Narrative, Expository and Persuasive papers, then they will absolutely benefit from the "Teach Me Writing" curriculum.
What if our elementary school goes higher than fifth grade?
There are hundreds of K-7 schools implementing "Teach Me Writing". Since the upper grade level Teacher Handbooks (Levels E-F) have over 350 potential lessons, many schools are using the Level E Teacher Handbook in grades 4-5 and the Level F Teacher Handbook in grades 6-7.
